A lower headline price may cover a different box. Compare the usable internal dimensions, board and wrap, insert construction, finish coverage, packing and delivery term line by line. Ask both suppliers to identify exclusions; the purchasing decision should follow the complete specification and landed project cost.

Cosmetics and skincare
Start with bottle and jar heights so the first view is not dominated by one tall cap. Review label direction, finger access and any card placed over the tray. Choose soft-touch or foil only after the arrangement and selected paper have been sampled together.
Watches and accessories
Check the watch with its actual strap or bracelet position and protective wrapping. In a drawer format, the pillow must clear the sleeve throughout opening, while the pull remains easy to reach. A good closed photograph does not establish a smooth loaded slide.
What to check before sharing product photos
Check that the image shows the construction you intend to describe: the closure, insert and visible finish should agree with the written brief. Keep design references separate from evidence of completed work, and use the physical sample to approve the product fit.

Bring the product dimensions, logo and intended use. Free design support and a 3D mockup help resolve the dieline, panel orientation and opening direction before physical sampling, reducing the chance of approving attractive artwork on an unsuitable structure.
Relevant certificate and test records
Match the document to the question being asked: management systems, paper sourcing, a tested material and a factory assessment have different scopes. Review the available ISO 9001, FSC, PPWR test and NBCUniversal GBS records and confirm the holder, dates and applicability to the order.
Production communication
Set the approval points before production starts. Decide which artwork, material or assembly changes need your sign-off and which progress records you need at print, forming, inspection and packing. Keep the agreed revision and communication channel attached to the order.
From Your Brief to Production: Four Steps
1. Send the product and order requirements
List each item with dimensions and filled weight, the quantity per design and size, the sales channel and the arrival deadline. Add a logo, photo or sketch if available. If the box dimensions are still open, state the product dimensions clearly so they are not mistaken for finished box measurements.
2. Review the structure, design and quote
Resolve the structure and insert layout before approving artwork. Compare the proposed dieline, materials and finish with a written quote that separates tooling, sample work, unit price, packing and delivery. Identify any item still provisional before paying for the next stage.
3. Approve a physical sample
Sampling usually takes 3–5 days after structure and artwork confirmation, with courier transit additional. Review the loaded box, not just its empty exterior, and record any fit, print or opening changes. Agree fees, revisions and any order credit in writing, then identify the final approved sample and artwork revision.
4. Confirm production and delivery
Bulk production usually takes 15–25 days after sample approval; transport is a separate stage. Confirm the production schedule, inspection reference and carton packing before dispatch planning. Supply Amazon FBA or other warehouse instructions early, with the delivery term, customs responsibilities and target arrival date agreed for the route.

How do I assess a packaging manufacturer?
Start with company identity and evidence relevant to the proposed work, then assess the sample against a written specification. Ask how a changed paper, insert or finish would be approved. This reveals more about order control than an isolated certificate logo or low unit price.
How do I confirm the insert and finish?
Provide the real product or a dimensionally accurate representative. Check the insert at the contact points, below the lid and where fingers need access. Approve foil, UV or embossing on the selected paper, then retain the same material and artwork references for production.
What should the order record include?
Create one order reference covering internal and external dimensions, material grades, insert drawing, artwork version, finish, quantity and sample approval. Add inspection, packing, payment and delivery terms. For a reorder, identify what remains the same and what changed instead of relying on a previous photograph.
Custom Packaging Questions
What is the minimum order quantity?
The minimum is 500 pcs per design and size. A range with different dimensions or artwork needs an itemised quantity plan; quantities across several designs should not be assumed to combine into one 500-piece run.
How long do sampling and production take?
Allow usually 3–5 days for a sample after structure and artwork confirmation, then usually 15–25 days for bulk production after sample approval. Add approval time and freight separately. Share a fixed launch date at enquiry so material availability, complexity and the delivery route can be reviewed before an order is confirmed.
Can I approve a sample before bulk production?
Yes. Use the sample to approve the loaded fit, material, artwork and opening action before bulk production. Confirm the sample fee, courier, revision scope and any bulk-order credit in writing; these commercial terms are not implied by free design support.
Can you use my design and Pantone colours?
Send editable AI or vector PDF artwork and identify the required colour reference. Paper colour, coating and finishing affect the viewed result, so approve colour on the actual construction. A Pantone reference guides the discussion; a screen mockup cannot serve as a physical colour proof.
Which finishes can I specify?
Discuss matte, gloss or soft-touch lamination, foil, embossing, debossing, spot UV, aqueous coating and textured paper. The useful shortlist depends on your wrap and logo detail. Where effects are combined, sample the combination rather than approving each finish only on a separate swatch.
What are the payment terms?
Payment is agreed in the written quotation: method, currency, deposit, balance and dispatch conditions. Ask for the complete schedule before confirming an order, including any separate tooling or sample payments. Credit arrangements require their own written agreement.
How do international shipping and customs work?
Choose the service against the packed carton dimensions, weight and destination, then agree the delivery term and named place. The quote should assign freight, customs, tax and final-delivery responsibilities and identify the required documents. DDP or fulfilment-warehouse delivery needs confirmation for that route rather than a general promise.
What affects the unit price?
The main variables are structure, finished size, board and wrap, insert complexity, artwork, finish coverage, quantity and packing. Freight changes the project cost as well. To compare alternatives, keep the remaining specification constant and ask for the price difference for each proposed change.
Can you supply magnetic boxes in wholesale quantities?
Yes, from 500 pcs per design and size. Compare an assembled construction with a collapsible magnetic format using product fit, assembly work and packed carton volume. Specify the insert and finish separately so the wholesale quote describes the complete box you intend to buy.
Can you help with sustainability requirements?
Start with the requirement you need to substantiate: certified paper sourcing, recycled content, reduced components or a plastic-free construction. Review the board, coating, magnets, lining and insert together, and confirm supporting evidence and disposal guidance for the destination. No single paper colour or finish establishes the whole package's environmental performance.
How long should I allow for transport?
Request a current freight schedule for the named destination using the final packed dimensions and weight. Separate dispatch, main transit, customs and final delivery when planning the arrival date. A general air or sea transit estimate cannot establish the delivery date of a specific order.
